East West Brewing Company, 1400 Lake Dr SE, Grand Rapids ~ 4/11/17 & 10/11/21

East West opened in December of 2016 and we first visited in April of 2017. Here are a few photos from that visit.
Today there are fewer tables and they are in less communal spacing, naturally. Otherwise, the lighting and bar look the same and the live wall has grown.
In 2017, it was counter service only and this was the menu.
We were reluctantly helped by the one person in the place.
Our two biggest disappointments back then were that it was counter service only and there was no Indian food available in the brewery. We could smell it but would have to move to the attached Bombay Palace in order to have it. That has all changed. We were greeted by our server, Vlad, who handed us the full Bombay Palace menu, which contained no sandwiches. And instead of unmarked flights like before, today's were marked.

We ordered the appetizer plate: vegetable samosa, onion bhaaji, and vegetable pakoras, and some delicious naan.
We followed that up with Korma Kashmiri (mild),
Tiki Masala (medium),
and Kashmiri Subzi (mild).
Everyone left happy and with leftovers. But like last time, they did not have stickers or coasters for us. Ah well, maybe next time 😊
Favorite beers were Vander Blonde and Georgia Love.
The patio still looked inviting.

We're happy they survived the pandemic and we look forward to returning to the greatly improved East West Brewing Company.

 Established in 2017, this brewery, #50 of our tour, was one of our favorites. Located in an old 7-11 building, TwoGuys brews their beer across the street in a converted firehouse. The room is a nice size with about a dozen tables, a bar topped by a corrugated, metal ceiling and a church pew running along the length of the bar. Although beer is their main focus, they offer housemade wines and cocktails based on hard seltzer. There is no hard liquor available. But there is beer. Three of us chose our flights with care. Being so long ago that we were here, my recollection of what were our favorites does not exist but my notes indicate we tasted BC Blonde, Pumper Truck, TrenchWarfare, Station 3, Wolfpack Wheat, and Harvest. Guardian Brewing Company, 3657 63rd St, Saugatuck ~ 9/13/21

October 2023 update:  The brewery owners have announced that the brewery will be closing in March of 2024 or before if it sells. The asking price is $1.25 million. There are 12,000 SF indoors and a 3500 SF outdoor patio on 4 acres. They've been in business 5 years. Good luck to the owners and here's hoping new owners keep this cool place going! (Brewery Visits #1-#49  can be found here ) We didn't know anything about this place beforehand and were so impressed with it by the time we left. We were mystified by the buildings at first until our server told us it was the old Red Barn theater property. The barn was built as a horse barn in 1912 and became a theater in 1948. The Guardian Brewery owner purchased the 3 acre site in 2017 and opened the brewery in December of 2018. Apparently there are plans to eventually renovate the barn.
